Z Fold Window Card

Rubbernecker Blog KC-Rubbernecker-Z-Fold-Window-House-corner

I love the spring feel of this z fold window card with the brightly colored papers, flowers and awnings and all the kitty cats.  I have been wanting to create a z fold card with a window or windows for a while but wasn’t quite sure how it would look.  When I first started I thought I would use only one window but ended up using four.  It looks like the outside of a house with it’s awning and fenced in yard.  I couldn’t resist using the beautiful designer paper in the background even though it doesn’t really look like the outside of a house.  LOL!

For this card I used the Rubbernecker Window 4 Pane, Borders #2, Grass, Tall Terracotta Pots, Picket Fence, Leaf Group, Beach Chairs, Flower Buds and Cats.

The Z Fold Card Base and Box

  • Use the pre-scored Z Fold Box Card  kit to create the base.
  • Cut 2 2.5″ x 4.00″ designer paper layers  and one 5.25″ x 4.00″ layer and attach them to the card base using ATG adhesive.
  • Use white cardstock to cut the four windows and attach them to the card base using ATG adhesive.
  • Use bright pink cardstock to cut the awning layers and attach them to the windows using mounting tape.

Create the Box with Fence and Grass Layers

  • Cut an 11.00″ x 1.50″ grass layer using green cardstock. Note:  place the strip of green cardstock on the cutting platform, place the die at one end and run through the machine.  Place the die where the first die cut ended, line it up and run through the machine a second time.
  • Score the grass layer at 5.50″ and 8.25″.
  • Cut several sections of picket fence using white cardstock and attach them together using gloss accents.
  • Score the fence at 5.50″ and 8.25″.
  • Create a fence and grass layer 5.50″ wide, score at 2.75″ to fit on the inside two sections of the box and attach them to the card base using double stick tape.
  • Attach the grass layer to the fence layer using double stick tape.
  • Apply double stick tape on both ends of the back of the grass/fence layer and attach to the card base.
  • Cut four grass layers 3.75″ x 1.50″ and score at .50″ on each end.  Fold left side forward and the right side backwards.
  • Apply double stick tape to the folded tab ends of the grass inserts and attach them inside the box.

The Flower Pots and Garden Flowers

  • Use yellow cardstock to cut the terracotta pots and apply Wild Honey and Rusty Hinge ink using mini applicators.  Note:  The yellow cardstock shows through the ink and allows the lighter highlights of the pot to show to help create the terracotta appearance.
  • Cut the flowers using light and bright pink cardstock and the greenery using green cardstock.
  • Use snips to cut the branches off the leaf group foliage and attach them to the back of the flower pots using glossy accents.
  • Form the tiny flowers using a small tipped stylus and molding pad.
  • Attach the flowers to the flower pot foliage using glossy accents.
  • Tuck the pots in behind the fence sections and attach using pieces of mounting tape.
  • Create several additional branches with flowers and tuck them in behind the grass layers using glossy accents.

The Cats and Chair

  • Cut the cats using white cardstock.
  • Apply Antique Linen ink to the body of the cats using a mini applicator.
  • Use Vintage Photo ink and a mini applicator to add darker shading on the cats.
  • Apply pieces of mounting tape to the back of the cats and attach them to the grass/fence layer and card base.
  • Finish the card by attaching one beach chair to a grass inside the fence using glossy accents.
