A Super Cute Farm Scene Card!

I just had to make this farm scene card using a double shutter base and I HAD to include Nellie the horse,  Bessie and Bossie, the spotted cows AND their cute little chicken and duck friends! The shutter card layout has been around for a long time but it’s not a fold I’ve used until recently.  I love that it provides a larger palette to create an extended scene on.  When closed this card shows the tree and one cow and is a very cute scene all on it’s own.  I love the surprise inside that shows the full scene.

For this project I used the Rubbernecker Barn, Winter Tree, Picket Fence, Grass, Leaf Group, Small Ivy, Farm Animals, Clouds, Cloud Trees, Sun Moon, Ducks, Chickens/Squirrels and Small Birds.

The Card Base

• The card base was made using a pre scored A2 sized card from  White Double Shutter Card kit.
• Use your bone folder to sharpen the folds of the card.
• Cut light blue cardstock sections  to fit the card base.
  • four 1 15/15″ x 5 3/8″ pieces of blue paper.
  • one 4 1/16″ x 5 3/8″ piece of blue paper.
• Apply ATG adhesive to the blue layers and attach to the card base.

The Grass and Fence Layers

• Cut the grass layers using green cardstock.
  • eight 1 15/16″ x 1″ grass layers.
  • two 4 1/16″ x 1″ grass layers.
• Use white cardstock to cut the picket fence sections.
  • four 1 15/16″ fence sections to use on the folds.
  • one full fence section and cut in half to use in the center.
• Attach the back grass layers to the folds and center section of the card using double stick tape.
• Apply double stick tape to the front of the fence sections and attach them to the grass sections.
• Use double stick tape on the back of the fence and grass sections and attach them to the card base.

The Barn and Tree

• Use red, white and gray cardstock to cut the barn sections and woodgrain and green cardstock to cut the tree and leaves.
• Assemble the barn sections, tuck them in behind the grass layers and attach them in place with pieces of mounting tape.
• Apply Antique Linen ink directly to the tree by swiping the pad over the tree.  Heat dry.
• Use glossy accents to attach the tiny ivy leaves to the tree.
• Apply strips of mounting tape to the back of the tree and several rolled up glue dots to the back of several key leaves.
• Tuck the tree in behind the fence and grass layers and attach to the card base,

The Animals

• Cut the horse and cows using white cardstock.
• Color the horse using a mini applicator and Antique Linen and Vintage Photo ink.
• Use a black Copic marker to color the cows.
• Cut the ducks using white cardstock and color the legs and beak using a mini applicator and Wild Honey ink.
• Use yellow cardstock to cut the chickens and color them using mini applicators and Rusty Hinge, Fired Brick and Spiced Marmalade inks.
• Tuck the horse and cows in behind the grass sections and attach using pieces of mounting tape.
• Apply small pieces of mounting tape to the back of the chickens and ducks and attach them to the front of the grass layers.

Finish the Card

• Cut several sections of the Leaf Group using green cardstock.
• Use the smaller sections of foliage and tuck them in behind the fence and barn and attach in place using glossy accents.
• Cut the clouds using white cardstock.  I used both the Cloud set and the Cloud Tree (tops) to create several different shapes of clouds for the scene.
• Apply pieces of mounting tape to the back of the clouds and attach them to the card base.
• Use red cardstock to cut the birds, color the beaks using a black marker and attach them to the scene using small pieces of mounting tape.
• Finish by cut the sun using yellow cardstock and attach it to the card base using mounting tape.

Now of course YOU can dress up your farm scene card with any animals – or even fruits or veggies – that you like!
