Making this beach themed Z Fold card with the die cut scooter front and center was so much fun. I always enjoy deciding where to put all the parts and pieces to create an interesting scene. With the scooter out in the front I wanted the lifeguard tower to look back in the distance since it is so much smaller than the scooter. Adding the palm trees on both sides of the card anchored the scene and draws the eye in to everything else going on in the scene.
For this project I used the Rubbernecker Scooter, Lifeguard Tower, Palm Trees, Deckle Hills, Waves, Sun Moon, Grass #2 and Small Birds.
The Card Base and Waves
- Apply clouds to the white Z fold card base using a cloud stencil, large blender brush and Tumbled Glass ink.
- Cut wave sections to fit across the back section of the card base and in the box sections using aqua cardstock.
- Layer two 5.50″ sections to the back of the card base using double stick tape.
- Cut four waves layers 1.50″ x 3.75″, score at .50″ on each end.
- Apply double stick tape on both ends of the wave and sand layers and set aside.
The Sand Layers and Wave Box
- Cut two 11″ sand layers to fit across the whole card base. Place an 11″ piece of cardstock on cutting platform, place the deckle die at one end of the cardstock and cut. Place the deckle die at the end of the first cut, line up the ends and cut a second time.
- Apply Antique Linen ink to the sand layers by swiping the ink pad directly over the cardstock and quick dry with the heat gun.
- Attach the two sand layers together using double stick tape.
- Score the sand layers at 5.50″ and 8.25″ using a bone folder to create a sharp crease on both folds.
- Apply double stick tape to the sand layers and attach to the card base.
- Apply 1/2″ double stick tape to the wave tabs, tuck each layer inside the box and attach the tabs.
The Lifeguard Tower
- Cut the Lifeguard Tower using Kraft cardstock and the lifesaver ring using red and white cardstock. and lifesaver board using yellow cardstock.
- Apply Vintage Photo ink to the roof and railing sections using a mini applicator.
- Attach the roof and railing to the tower using strips of mounting tape.
- Attach the red pieces to the lifesaver ring and board using glossy accents.
- Punch a 1/16″ hole in the tip of the lifesaver board and insert a single layer of string for the rope.
- Attach the lifesaving ring and board to the tower using glossy accents and mounting tape.
The Palm Trees, Surfboards and Sun
- Cut the palm fronds using green cardstock and the trunks using woodgrain cardstock.
- Apply Vintage Photo ink to the trunks and coconuts using a mini applicator.
- Attach the green fronds and coconuts to the trunks using glossy accents.
- Cut the Sun, attach the sections together and apply yellow tickles to create sparkle.
Handmade Scene Embellishments
- Cut grass sprigs using green cardstock.
- Create a handmade towel using thin cut strips of red and white cardstock attached to a white towel base.
- Attach the red and white strips to the towel base using glossy accents.
- Use snips to cut the end of the towel to create fringe.
- Create the beach floats using a 3/4″ circle punch and a 1/4″ circle punch. Cut the 1/4″ circle in a piece of white cardstock and then line it up inside the 3/4″ punch and punch out the larger circle. I created two white floats and two red.
- Hand cut the red sections of each float using snips and attach them to the white floats using glossy accents. Note: I think you may see a great die set of beach toys by Rubbernecker coming out in the future.
The Scooter and Birds
- Cut the scooter parts using red, black and gray cardstock.
- Attach the main pieces together pieces of mounting tape.
- Use glossy accents to attach the decorative embellishments and wheels to the scooter.
- Apply a large piece of mounting tape to the back of the scooter and attach to the front card base.
- Cut the birds using white cardstock and apply Pumice Stone ink on the wings using a mini applicator.
- Finish the card by attaching the sun and birds with pieces of mounting tape.
