This is the PURRFECT birthday card for cat lovers!
Since this is our birthday month and also since we just released our super cute (and SUPER popular!) For Each Other stamp set we’ve seen a few cute critter birthday cards this month. This handmade cat birthday card from Annie is both super sweet AND has a really cute back story.
Annie says she was inspired to add this feline friend to her card because, in her words, “in my house, whenever there are flowers in a vase, there are cats trying to eat them. So I added a cute cat from the For Each Other Stamp Set that just seemed to be posed perfectly for a little mischief on this mini slimline card perfect for another cat-lover’s birthday.” Don’t you just love it when you have the exact right thing to make it totally your own? Let’s see how Annie made this card so we can try it, too!
Annie started by stamping her images from our new Birthday Vase and For Each Other stamp sets on white card stock with alcohol friendly ink and colored them in with her Tombow ABT Pro markers. When she had them all colored up, she cut them out with our coordinating dies and set them aside.
Now she cut pieces of both white and light blue card stock using the largest die from our Mini Slimline Tabbed Scallop Stitch die set. She trimmed about a half an inch off the bottom of the white die cut to use as her “tablecloth” on her card and set it aside with her other die cuts.
Annie took the light blue die cut panel and, using a blending brush and Arctic Color Fuse Ink from Set #7, applied the ink through the smaller dotted stencil from our Slimline Dots Stencil set to add a little tone on tone texture.
She then stamped one of the sentiments from the Birthday Case stamp set in the upper left hand corner using Versafine Clair Nocturne ink. To finish this pretty background, Annie adhered the white die cut strip to the bottom of the blue panel with her tape runner, lining up the scallops for a tidy edge. She then adhered this to her mini slimline card base with some dimensional adhesive.
All that was left was to pop up her pretty vase of flowers and her sweet little kitty – plotting which bloom to nibble first – with more dimensional adhesive.
Adorable! And all told, a pretty easy card to make! This is another one of those projects that we would do a few of, perhaps in different color stories and with different breeds of kitties for even more detail.

We love this handmade cat birthday card both for how simply pretty it is AND because it was born out of such a funny little anecdote! It’s always fun to be able to put a little bit of yourself in your projects, isn’t it?
