Truly Unique Handmade Christmas Cards

Rubbernecker Blog Come-see-how-I-made-this-snowy-Chritmas-card.

Today I’m sharing one of the more unique handmade Christmas cards I’ve created. It features an evergreen tree background and a bicycle and lamp post as the main focal image with lots of lovely snow.  I really love how the trees get lighter in color to draw the eye back into the distance of the scene.  I used the Rubbernecker Stamps 3 Pine Trees set and the Splatter Background to create the snowy scene background and the Winter Lamp Post, Bicycle, Deckle Hills, Cardinals and Tiny Leaves to create the focal images.

The Snowy Tree Background

  • Apply a blue sky background to the scene base using Tumbled Glass ink and an ink blending tool.
  • Stamp the front row of trees using Shady Lane ink.
  • Create the second tree row by stamping off the image once on scrap paper before stamping on the scene base.  Repeat this step to complete the second row.
  • Stamp off the tree two times on scrap paper before stamping the last row of trees.
  • Heat dry the ink on the whole scene base with the heat gun to prepare for stamping the falling snow to avoid having embossing powder sticking to it.
  • Apply white pigment ink to the Splatter Background and stamp it on the scene.
  • Sprinkle white embossing powder over the scene, shake off excess and heat using the heat gun.  Note:  Sometimes it’s necessary to turn the card base face down and strike a few times on the back to remove excess powder.

The Die Cut Images

  • Use black and white cardstock to cut the lamp post and snowy accessories.
  • Attach white pieces to the lamp post using glossy accents.
  • Cut the bicycle sections using red, black, gray and woodgrain cardstock.
  • Assemble the bicycle parts together using glossy accents.
  • Cut the holly leaves for the basket using green cardstock.
  • Use white cardstock to cut the deckle hills.
  • Cut the cardinals using red cardstock and color their beaks using a black marker.
  • Stamp the bicycle and basket with the Splatter Background and emboss with white embossing powder.  Note:  I should have stamped the black lamp post with the snowy background as well but forgot.  I wanted the images to appear as if they were in falling snow.

Assemble the Snowy Christmas Card

  • Apply double stick tape to the back snow layer and attach it to the card base.
  • Use a trip of mounting tape to attach the front layer of snow to the card base.
  • Create the holly basket arrangement by attaching the leaves to the basket using glossy accents and paint the tips of the leaves using white Gesso..
  • Attach the basket arrangement to the bicycle using glossy accents.
  • Apply strips of mounting tape to the lamp post and bicycle, tuck them in behind the snow layer and attach to the card base.
  • Finish the scene by attaching the three cardinals using small pieces of mounting tape.
