A Breathtaking Butterfly Birthday Card!

When we first saw this butterfly birthday card we had to take a moment and just appreciate how beautiful it is! The soothing background pattern of the watercolor style flowers, the highlighted oval that is the perch for a striking 3D die cut butterfly and that bold black sentiment…….it all just comes together in such perfect balance. And Renee, today’s designer, is sharing her whole how-to here so YOU can make it too!

Renee used our Spring Blossom Watercolor stamp set which has two stamps, the petals and the stems. Renee says “I love this stamp because you don’t have to be exact on the layering of the leaves and branches.  I find being slightly imperfect gives a beautiful result.” We SO agree!  The results look a lot like that beautiful hand painted wallpaper that goes for a zillion bucks a roll!

Here’s how Renee put this together for us. First, she stamped the branches in the center of her white card stock panel and added the petals. She repeated this process until she had filled in the whole panel using the stamps and our Color Fuse inks.

Then she cut a scalloped oval from the center and adhered the background (with the oval hole) to her card base. She added the oval back into the space with some foam tape to give this element some delicious dimension.

For her beautiful butterfly, she stamped one of the images from our Butterflies Are Free set, colored it in and cut it out with the coordinating die. Next, she swiped a piece of black card stock with her anti-static tool – so important during these dry winter days! – and stamped her sentiment from Kittie Says Phrases #1 with Versamark and heat embossed it with white embossing powder. She cut that piece with one of our Inside Scallop Nested dies to make her banner.

After positioning and adding the sentiment with some foam tape, she added a sliver of the same dimensional adhesive just to the center of the butterfly, bent the wings up and added it to the oval.

This card would be so perfect for anyone and you can use any of our other Color Fuse inks to change up the color story or to match your friend’s favorites. Here are the things you are going to want to get your hands on to make this card because this idea is a keeper!
