Who says funny can’t be gorgeous?
Today we’ve got an idea for funny handmade birthday cards for friends that are so beautiful it takes a second for the funny part to kick in. And we LOVE it! When we designed this set – part of our fun filled Birthday release – we combined these easy to whip up flowers with these sayings that will bring a smile to anyone’s face. Today, Allie is showing that off to perfection. Let’s dive in to the making!
Allie started by using the largest and second smallest dies from our Mini Slimline Nested With Stitch set and the second largest die from our Mini Slimline Tabbed Scallop Stitch set to cut white card stock.
Using our Bold Rose stencil, Allie then applied Grass Color Fuse Ink from Set #11 and Mango Color Fuse Ink from Set #2 through it onto the smallest die cut for her background.
Next, Allie stamped the flowers from our Always On My Mind set in black ink onto white card stock scraps, colored them up in shades of orange and cut them out with our coordinating die. She arranged these over her stenciled background panel and when she had them just how she liked them, she used a pair of paper snips to trim off any overhanging sections of the little die cuts. PRO TIP: Allowing elements to “run off” a panel adds lots of visual movement and keeps they eye engaged on the scene. She then added the flowers to the stenciled piece with some dimensional adhesive.
She layered her background onto the scalloped die cut piece with more dimensional adhesive, adhered that to her larger stitched panel and then popped the whole assembly onto her mini slimline card base with her tape runner.
Now she stamped that tongue in cheek sentiment in black on a scrap of white card stock, cut it out with one of the dies from our Nested Circle Stitch set and adhered it to the center of her card with more dimensional adhesive. For a touch of bling and more pops of color and motion, she added some orange Nuvo drops.
We love the idea of using a cheeky greeting with the traditional pretty water colored flowers on funny handmade birthday cards for friends. And this particular card doesn’t take a crazy amount of time to create so you could do a whole bunch of die cutting, then set up for a good coloring session in front of your favorite binge-worthy show and then have a final assembly session and have all you birthday cards for your friends done in one batch!

Love the color combo and layering! Beautiful card… love the fun sentiment!
