Snowflakes and birthdays merge perfectly on today’s handmade snow themed birthday card! Some people with winter birthdays that are close to the holidays don’t always get the recognition they deserve but today’s card will certainly make them feel special!
Melinda created this beauty for us and she says “For this card I wanted to create something wintry for those winter birthdays. I love the size of these snowflakes and how easy it is to cluster them onto a card front. I wanted to go with soft pastel colors and the Color Fuse inks are great for blending.”
We adore this look and love that you can adapt this easy design any way you like. Let’s get Melinda’s steps and her little tricks in her own words and we will pop in at the end.
Start with making a little ink blended panel using colors of your choice. I used Color Fuse Inks in Whisper, Beachside, Moss and Blush for my snowflakes (from Set #9, 10, and 5 respectively). Blend in stripes of colors making sure that where colors touch they are two colors that blend well together. I blended the green in-between the two blue-greens to create a nice variety of shades.
PRO TIP: I kept my colors soft but if you want to go darker start light and build up your color. Start with these lighter colors and then select the next color up in the same color family to add some intensity and depth of color.
Now take the snowflake dies and die cut the colored paper you just created. Its nice to cut some snowflakes where the color changes to pick up that pretty blended shade-to-shade area you’ve created. Cut each snowflake at least twice.
Now cut a few of the snowflakes from plain white card stock so you can create a little dimension. Adhere the snowflakes together with 1 to 3 extra white ones adhered together with the inked ones on top. This gives you lots of differing dimension. I just used 4 of the snowflake dies for this and left 3 a single layer.
Using the second largest size of the Stitched Mini Slimline frame die, cut a piece of white card stock. Spatter that stitched background with gold or silver.
Using the the circle Happy Birthday sentiment from the Happy Birthday set – my personal favorite – and stamp in gold or silver in the lower right of the card front.
Adhere a snowflake to the center of the circle sentiment and arrange the rest flowing across the card front. Add your panel to a mini slimline card front with some foam tape adhesive and you’re done!
Rubbernecker here – isn’t that marvelous? And what an outstanding card for batch making! You can make these in any color stories you love, add some metallics, make them them standard card size…..the opportunities are endless!
