I like a shortcut as much as the next person and I am totally not ashamed to say that today’s project started with a package of pop up box card blanks from The Paper Cuts. These pre-cut, pre-folded, pre-everything-but-the-fun part cards are a lifesaver and today we are going to see how using those and some stinkin’ adorable goodies from Rubbernecker can help you look like a paper crafting genius!
For this project I used the Rubbernecker Winter Lamp Post, Park Bench, Wrought Iron Fence, Grass, Ducks, Small Ivy, Small Flowers #1, Small Butterflies and Tiny Flower Buds.
Assemble the 3D Pop Up Box Base
- Cut the layering pieces. The designer paper I used is from the Carta Bella Spring Market collection and the grass layers were made using green cardstock.
- 2 5 5/8″ x 3 5/8″ layers
- 2 3 5/8″ x 2 3/4″ layers
- 4 1 7/8″ x 2 3/4″ layers
- Attach the paper layers to the inside and outside card base using ATG adhesive.
- Apply 1/2″ double stick tape to the box tab, line it up and secure the box closed.
- Cut the green grass sections to fit the tabs included in the kit and attach them with ATG adhesive.
- Apply 1/2″ double stick tape to the tabs on both sides and insert them inside the box.
- Note: I use the Be Creative double stick tape on the tabs because it is much stronger than the ATG adhesive. I like to use the ATG adhesive on layering paper because it is fast and easy.
The Lamp Posts, Fence, Bench and Grass Layers
- Use black cardstock to cut the lamp post, fence sections and bench and green cardstock to cut the grass sections for the box flaps..
- Cut the lamp inner sections using vellum and attach them to the back of the lamps using glossy accents.
- Tuck one fence section in behind the back grass layer and attach it to the back wall using glossy accents.
- Apply small strips of mounting tape to the back of the lamp post and attach it to the back card base.
- Attach the park bench to a grass layer inside the box using glossy accents.
- Use double stick to attach the fence and grass sections to the three box flaps.
The Ducks, Flowers and Butterflies
- Use white and yellow cardstock to cut the mother and baby ducks and yellow cardstock to cut the butterflies.
- Color the baby ducks and small butterflies using a mini applicator and Wild Honey ink.
- Use a mini applicator and Wild Honey to color the beak and legs of the mother duck.
- Cut the flowers using yellow, purple and pink cardstock. Apply touches of Worn Lipstick ink to the pink flowers to make them a better match for the pink flowers on the designer paper.
- Form the flowers using a small tipped stylus and molding pad.
- Use green cardstock to cut the small ivy sections.
- Attach the flowers to the ivy sections using glossy accents.
- Tuck the ivy and flowers stems in behind the grass layers on the box flaps and inner box grass sections and attach using glossy accents.
- Create a small flower wreath with ivy and flowers and attach to the lamp post using glossy accents.
- Apply pieces of mounting tape to the back of the ducks and attach them to the box flap. Tuck two ducks in behind the grass sections in the inner box and attach using glossy accents.
- Finish the card by attaching the small butterflies to the back of the box and the box flaps using glossy accents.
